During the fall and winter, you might notice that your disposition isn’t as cheerful as it typically is. This is totally normal, due to less sunlight and gloomier days. Plus, the colder weather might make you feel like curling up under a blanket all day. You might experience the seasonal blues. In the fall, all of your obligations might pick back up. If your kids are heading back to school, it’s also time for the stress of running everyone around to their extracurricular activities.

It’s not uncommon to experience negative feelings in the fall and winter. But, it’s possible to maintain your happiness and positivity, even when you feel like you should stay in bed all day in the winter.

Try out these tips and see what keeps you happy this fall.

  1. Don’t skip your workouts. It can be tempting to hang out in your warm home all day, but it’s important to take the time to work out on a regular basis. If you’re worried about working out in the cold, find indoor workouts to try. There are plenty of online resources to try. Or you could start using your treadmill or dumbbells again. Your workouts might look different, but they can still give you the good mood boost you need.
  1. Create a schedule for yourself. For some people, having a routine can help to cut back on stress. If these cooler months make you feel busier and more stressed, plan out your days with more intention. You may feel more motivated to stay on track and be able to manage your life better too. This is a great way to stick to your workouts and healthy meals too.
  1. Enjoy the sunshine. Even a quick walk outside can give you a good mood boost. Exercise plays a major role in how we feel physically and mentally. It could be just what your body is craving. Plus, the sunshine can help to brighten your mood too. If the weather is chilly, layer up. It’s beneficial to escape from the indoors for a few minutes each day.
  1. Make time for self-care. If life is feeling busier, it can be hard to prioritize yourself. By taking care of yourself, you can improve your mood and feel more relaxed overall. Taking a few moments to recharge might be just what you need to feel more positive. Self-care can be as simple as a bath or a cup of tea before bed. Find what works for you and makes you feel happier.
